When it comes to delivering work directly to the client and customers, carpentry leads the market segment. Carpentry is a highly demanded skill for various sectors in Australia’s thriving and rapidly growing economy. The practices involved in carpentry are traditional in nature, however, are in demand to support major technologies in domains such as construction, architecture, and more. With the required qualifications in carpeting, professionals today can pursue their dream careers and start their own work independently.
About the carpentry license
Carpentry is a specific segment that requires onsite training and handling of tools with a good knowledge of the sector. It demands hands-on practical experience that can be acquired only through skills training from an accredited institution or university. Any individual can gain a nationally recognised qualification in carpentry through a Recognition of Prior Learning or RPL program under skill development competencies with GrowSKill.
By developing the right skills, carpenters can work directly with clients or can get engaged in projects or contracts with building firms. A diploma or certification in carpentry is recognized across the country and is also deemed essential for working with all types of clients.
Why do you need a carpentry license?
Every state and territory in Australia has its own licensing and registration requirements. To become a licensed carpenter, an individual must have:
  • The statewide criteria for issuance of a carpentry license.
  • Registration with an accredited building and construction authority or work under the supervision of a licensed builder.

Competency level, knowledge, and handling of various machines and tools are crucial  for specializing in the carpentry skill. Along with skill gain, the registration and possession of a carpentry license assure the client that a professional has the required experience and qualifications to send bids, execute a project independently, and build their reputation as a professional carpenter.

How to apply for carpentry license

As per standard guidelines, every state follows a set pattern for issuing a carpentry license. If an individual does not have these qualifications via the TAFE certificate or an equivalent diploma, they can obtain it through RPL program. RPL recognises the experience and skills a professional develops while learning the units of competencies for the certification. Below qualifications are required for obtaining the license:

  • Certificate III in Carpentry and Joinery
  • Certificate III in Carpentry
How does the process work?
Proof of hands-on practical experience helps in determining the competency levels of a professional or an individual. Skills assessment via RPL enables to gain knowledge and also go for applying the carpentry license. This training and carpentry license is recognised everywhere and helps the trained individual to take up projects and work for acclaimed builders, architects and contractors across the country.
